[Fiesta Room; Tuesday 10:00 am to 11:00 am; Studio Session]
DESCRIPTIONVirtual character-based simulations are increasingly popular with training departments because of their lowered costs and powerful engagement with learners. Virtual characters bring graphics, audio, and human social intelligence together in a combination that is uniquely powerful, but also potentially daunting for systematic design efforts. Drawing upon research in the area of human computer interaction, we will discuss key strengths and promising directions for appropriate design and implementations.
KEY QUESTIONS
- What types of virtual characters should I use for training initiatives and when should I use them?
- How do we get the most value in using virtual characters for training initiatives?
- What can be learned about using virtual characters for modeling behavior and decision-making processes?
KEY POINTS
Learn about the psychological functions of virtual characters Explore the learner’s social response to virtual characters Recognize archetypal roles for virtual characters Recognize when virtual characters are well suited for training
[Baja Room; Tuesday 2:45 pm to 3:45 pm
