Session 323 at Learning 2011

Title: GE-Tube: Bring Your Own Popcorn!

Room Location: Yucatan 1/2

Day and Time: Monday, 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Session Format: Learning Story

Led By: Bethany Tate Cornell - Chief Learning Officer, GE Energy

Mani Gopalakrishnan - Learning Technology Leader, GE Energy

Ian McDonnell - IM Program Manager, GE Energy

Session Description: In a world where 140 characters, short chunks of video, crowd sourcing and Facebook likes/comments are defining millenials' and others' learning behaviors, 60-90 minutes of web-based training was no longer working for GE Energy. Tough economic conditions, coupled with our global growth, challenged us to find ways to improve learners' experience. We lobbied with our CIO to lay the foundation for an enterprise-wide, internal video platform: YouTube-like software to meet the changing needs of the learning landscape. Learn how our efforts have led to an impactful learning delivery platform. We'll share challenges and lessons learned.

  • Conceptualizing the idea and building the infrastructure
