  • Costs, hurdles, tips and tricks

Led by: Randy Hinrichs - MASIE Learning Fellow

Randy Hinrichs is the CEO of 2b3d, a company that builds strategies and virtual world content for Fortune 1000 companies. Led by: David S. Anderson - Countrywide Home Loans

David Anderson is the AVP of Instructional Design and Development for Countrywide Home Loans where he supports both ILT and elearning teams. He has over 15 years in multimedia learning, instructional design and content development.

In addition to doing what he’s “supposed to do” David spends his remaining time advocating and creating prototypes around emerging technologies including virtual worlds.

“Anyone can build in Second Life. This is just like 10 years ago when instructional designers started learning Authorware. Their companies didn’t hire vendors. IDs were told to learn it and we did. Second Life is just another application in our toolkit.

We're still figuring this out. There are too many lessons learned along the way. We have made so many changes based on both learner and stakeholder feedback. Had this project been contracted we’d have spent many times the initial investment. The bottom line is this technology is important but it’s still emerging.”

Today David and his team continue experimenting in-world, hosting informal pilots, and redesigning as necessary based on lessons learned with internal designers and trainers. The build demo'd at L7 will be taken down this week and new development will begin.
