Session Title: Compliance From The Eyes Of The Legal Department

Session Number: 232

Room: Coronado T

Day and Timeslot: Monday - 11:15am to 12:15pm

Formats: Discussion

Session Description: The age old question still applies: which works better - the carrot or the stick? For many industries, regulatory requirements mean more mandatory e-Learning modules for all employees. Failure for completion by employees can come back to haunt the firm in the form of legal reprimands and big $$ in penalties, not to mention the potential of reputational risk due to damaging press. How do we motivate an employee to complete a module before the deadline?

  • Which "carrots" (rewards) or "sticks" (negative consequences) have you used to successfully nudge employees pre- and post-deadline?
  • How long is a reasonable post-deadline follow-up?
  • What may be done to protect the interests of the firm if an employee does not complete a compliance module mandated by regulatory concerns?
