Session Description

When rolling out our new LMS, we were faced with a communications challenge: how best to get the word out in a low-cost, effective and fun way. If you're about to introduce a new system or replace an existing system in your organization, this session will provide marketing ideas, communication examples and unique implementation approaches. You'll leave with solid examples, cool new ideas and proactive techniques for launching any system.

  • Low-cost ways to deliver training for a new product
  • Unique marketing ideas for a rollout or implementation
  • Techniques for greatly reducing follow-up support calls after the "go-live" date

List YOUR ideas! Handouts:
  1. Communications Plan - Jill Retzer, Park Nicollet
  2. Mousepad giveaways - Kim Koehler, Park Nicollet
  3. Cruise giveaways - John Binger, Travel Kings International
  4. Cash prizes - Anonymous, self-employed
  5. Create a Myspace page or LMS Group on Myspace - Lara Smith, The Masie Center
  6. Low budget - county government - how to keep the perception that you didn't spend too much money on prizes and incentives
  7. To reduce support calls -- think 'web help sites' for each stakeholder audience - learners, admins, content feedback and evaluation, etc. - Grant Ricketts (session 507)
  8. Leverage any "customizable" pieces of the software to provide additional help or news.  For example: repurpose "out-of-the-box" help with your own in-house help.
  9. Hold open-houses and/or sponsor labs to introduce the product, answer questions, and help people over the intial hurdles.
  10. Send regular tips out to users
  11. Offer in-person training if possible - even if it's voluntary for the users - the users who do attend will prove effect "field agents."
  12. Involve your help-desk folks, and provide them with the tools they need to troubleshoot issues and forward them to the appropriate team.
  13. Go to the learners - don't wait for them to come to you!  Live demos of the basic product capbiltites/processes at staff meetings
  14. We provided instructions ahead of time, and during rollout.  WHen users called with questions, we helped them, but also asked which step in instructions didn't make sense.  This let us improve our instructions, but also gave us a handle on how many people didn't read the instructions.
  15. Have "scripted" responses ready for common issues/problems - faster response time to learners, and more comprehensive answers.
  16. Have a "birthday" or "anniversary" party for your application!
  17. Ask vendor for Gadgets/Gizmos/Marketing tools...
