Engage in an interactive benchmarking dialogue with other colleagues from the Police/Public Safety field in this special MyIndustry Learning User Group. We will compare notes about how "Learning is Changing", including:

  • The realities of police and public safety training in an age of descending budgets and rising public desire for security
  • Affordability of technology for training
  • Moving to e-Learning: contractual considerations when unionized, safety concerns for street officers and overtime issues

Led by:

Mavae Andrea, Palm Beach Couty Sheriff's Office

Mavae Andrea is an instructor in the Training Division at the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Palm Beach County, FL, where she has worked for 28 years. Mavae spent 17 of those years working with Information Systems and began her career as a computer instructor. For at least 23 years, she has created, conducted, and provided instructor-led computer classes and end-user application support. Mavae is currently exploring the ways in which an LMS and e-learning can benefit and improve her team’s training efforts.

Jeffrey Swank, Palm Beach Couty Sheriff's Office

Lieutenant Jeffrey Swank has been a Law Enforcement Officer with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office for 19 years. He has been an instructor for 10 of those years and was assigned to the Training Division as Section Commander in January 2006. As such, he is responsible for the implementation and oversight of all training programs for the agency’s 3,400 employees. New to the LMS and e-Learning world, his agency is also in the process of implementing mobile digital technology. Their goal is to develop a network within the public sector of other agencies interested in exploring new technologies for training.
